Literacy, Arts, Culture & Technology

Literacy

How would you define literacy?

Dictionaries traditionally define literacy as the ability to read and write...The key to literacy is reading development, a progression of skills which begins with the ability to understand spoken words and decode written words, and which culminates in the deep understanding of text.

Arts

Feeling Artistic?

The Arts are everywhere! Think about arts outside of the "literal" sense or formal assumptions, characterized by institutional training. One does not need to sing a song, dance to a tune, or paint a picture to be an artist. At Stalwarts, we celebrate those forms of the Arts, but we focus on what we feel the Arts truly are...any creative form of SELF-EXPRESSION. Whether you express yourself through dance, music, writing, cooking, building, or speaking, join us in developing and sharing your Art with the world.

Culture

Identifying
who you are &
why it matters

At Stalwarts Youth, our goal is not just to learn about differences in "culture." We want to empower our youth to share their various cultural backgrounds and assist in shaping the future of our society's culture. Join us in celebrating all that makes you special! Then, move forward in spreading that uniqueness to the rest of the world. The awareness, development, and willingness to be inclusive are key tenets to the Stalwarts mission of cultural development.

Technology

Stalwarts in the Technological Age

Technology is all around us. At Stalwarts Youth, we embrace the respectful and responsible use of technological media as a means to promote literacy, exchange ideas, and develop our intellectual capacities. Several of our programs involve the promotion of communication through advanced mediums. Whether you're reading material in a book or on an electronic device, the power is still in the words!
